Does The Diet Industry Want You to Fail?

As I’ve battled with my own weight issues over the years, (nothing extraordinary, just standard middle age battle of the bulge stuff). I’ve been tirelessly researching different weight loss and diet programs. I’ve tested many types of supplements and weight loss pills and have also discussed with those who have tried them. I’ve never found a product that has satisfied me long-term, or anyone else that I’ve talked with, long-term. As a result, I’m beginning to question myself as to whether these quick fix diet plans and pills work, or if it’s a problem that goes deeper than the diet pill itself? Is it our fault or does the diet industry wants us to fail?

I’ve been doing a little research into whether or not diet pills are indeed a viable option to lose weight or if it’s all just a big scam. There are few people who have not seen ‘Judy’s (or Jennifer’s or whomever’s) Weight Loss Blog’ with their insanely unbelievable before and after photos? Are they real people or just a gimmick to make me buy the products they’re pushing? 83% of dieters gain back more weight than they had previously lost after only 2 years is something I came across in one paper during the course of my research. Depressing, I know. This fact leads me to believe that these so called “miracle” diets are only be a temporary fix in the big scheme of things. Are these diet companies, who appear as if they’re trying to help us reach our goals, merely preying upon our ignorance, hopes and insecurities? In fact, maybe they never wanted us to succeed in the first place. So that we’ll pay more and more money to get temporary results that never stick is why they want us to fail even more. Our wallet is the only thing that sheds pounds while we line the pockets of these diet companies.

Everyone, including myself, wishes to have a movie star’s body. The truth is that you’ve wished for it too. To be frank, we’re never going to look like Demi Moore unless we pay to visit her plastic surgeon though diet pill companies make it seem otherwise. Teams of personal trainers, chefs and ample time to workout and burn away the fat are also there to help out movie stars. Now, if the diet industry could squeeze all that into a pill, maybe they’d have something, but in today’s world, there’s no such thing as a magic pill. I’ve also got some shares in a Nigerian gold mine to sell you if there are such pills.

The fact is, we have to make major lifestyle changes to meet our weight loss goals. Tough love, I know, but I have to say it. We should understand the perception of dieting, controlling our craving to eat, comprehend why and finally, make effort to reach our goals. It is quite possible though it will take time and discipline and it won’t always be easy. I’ve been making the effort and have seen the results myself, so why shouldn’t you? Jenny’s or Judy’s weight losses have been faster than mine, but remember, slow and steady wins the race. So take some time everyday to formulate your plan and then act on it. Your effort should not be just to lose weight, but to enjoy a healthier longer life. You know how especially important this is if you have kids, like I do. Enjoying my grandchildren and being around for a long time is my plan (even though it might be quite a long time away).
